The Great Green Directory is a project of the Conservation Council of Ontario. Our mission is to help create a conserver society in Ontario.
Ever since 1990, we've seen a steady growth in businesses and organizations that offer products and services to help people live greener. Very cool, but it can also be very confusing. We've set up the Great Green Directory to help people navigate a complex list of products, services, support programs, financial incentives, and resources.
Our goal is to make it easier to connect people with solutions.
The Great Green Directory is home to an entire conservation movement. It includes organizations, businesses, and governments and agencies. It will show you products, professional services, support programs, incentives, community funding, and general resources. You have three ways to mine this information.
A unique feature of the Great Green Directory is the personal Info Sheet. When you find products or services you like, simply click on the "save to my info sheet" button, and the information will become part of your own personal information sheet. Items you save to you info sheet will remain there after you log off, so you don't have to worry about losing items.
You can save the info sheet as a pdf or print it out as a reference sheet.
Info sheets can also be used for school research projects, or as handouts for community events. Researching the green movement was never easier!
Every organization, business, and government department or agency listed on the directory has their own page that they can maintain and update.
These pages contain concise information about who they are and what services they offer, with links to their websites for more information.
Any individual can set up a user account on the Great Green Directory. As a registered user, you can set up information pages on your organization, business, or government department, institution, or agency.
The Conservation Council of Ontario reserves the right to withdraw permission to hold an User Account or to set up Information Pages if we deem the information contained in the directory to be offensive, misleading, or otherwise inappropriate.
Another unique feature of the Great Green Directory is the GreenLeader rating system.
With so many programs and claims of green leadership out there, we decided to develop a common approach that allows people to compare the commitment to leadership of all types of businesses, organizations and even governments.
We've focused on three aspects of leadership: internal operations, products and services, and community support. The GreenLeader rating system is self-assessed, with the first two stars reflecting an initial commitment and five significant actions. The other three stars require a level of excellence in each of the leadership categories.
Every organization, business, and government in the Great Green Directory is prompted to fill out an assessment of their environmental commitment. It is an opportunity for them to promote their commitment and actions, and an invitation for you to support green leadership in your community.

The Great Green Directory is a member-supported project of the Conservation Council of Ontario. That's why there is a button on every Information Page indicating whether the organization, business or government is a member of the Council.
As the conservation movement continues to grow across Ontario, we are making it easier for individuals, organizations, businesses, and local governments to become supporting members of the Council
