Toronto Wildlife Centre’s Wildlife Hotline has been serving the public 365 days a year since 1993, and is the busiest hotline of its kind in North America. Highly-trained staff (who undergo intensive training for up to a year) respond to approximately 30,000 calls annually. During peak seasons - the spring and summer - the Wildlife Hotline can receive several calls a minute, many of which are of an urgent nature.
Toronto Wildlife Centre is the only organization in Canada's most populous region that rescues wild animals from life-threatening situations and is one of the only wildlife centre's in Ontario with Wildlife Care Supervisors trained in oil spill response.
Over 260 species of native wildlife have been admitted to TWC for treatment, and new species are encountered each year. These birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians represent not only common species, but also rare, threatened, and even endangered wildlife in this province. We take our responsibility to wildlife seriously, constantly striving for excellence and ensuring that we keep current on the latest information and techniques in the field.
Toronto Wildlife Centre puts a great deal of effort into providing educational resources for the public. We reach out to the public through the following areas of activity: The Wildlife Hotline, Involvement in public events, Presentations and Networking.
